Detail of the Andrew

Head of the Philip - originalReconstruction of the Philip

In Santa Maria delle Grazie, The Andrew's facial expression had almost completely redrawn the eyes and ears.
The repainting of the shadowed area of the face was heavy and unfaithful.

Removing the repaints from the left side of Andrew's face meant that his head was returned to its proper size and proportions.
It was also returned to the Leonardo's original, a very foreshortened pose in which the left eye is reduced to a sharp viewing angle.

The reconstruction process

In the mural PhilipAfter the cleaning, the facial condition of Andrew reacquired its proper size and proportions.

Reconstruction of Philip's faceHe has a thick gray beard and his hands in a gesture of heartfelt innocence as he hears the charge of betrayal.

In the mural, Andrew's thick gray beard was the product of a single, uniform coat that covered both the lacunae and the fragments of original color.

Reconstruction of Philip's mantleAfter cleaning the green mantle recuperated the brilliant green fragments of original color.

Reconstruction of Philip's blue robeAndrew's robe reacquired the original brilliant tonality of the yellow ocher fabric, and the modeling of the drapery in gradations of brown to golden yellow.

In front of the Andrew's right elbow, Leonardo set the glass cruet filled with water.
But it was lost in mural Last Supper in Santa Maria delle Grazie, now.
